NORTHERN ITALY 2017
Gallery
We went to Northern Italy in the end of summer 2017. I wanted to go to Northern Italy for quite some times as I read an article few years before about the Dolomites. Beautiful landscapes, rough but wonderful mountains, turquoise lakes. What's not to like?
So we decided almost last minute (well, 2-3 weeks before actually) to plan a roadtrip there.
Here was our itinerary :
Fontenay Sous Bois — Geneva Switzerland — Milan — Sirmione — Riva del Garda — Bolzano — The Dolomites — Verone — Arona — Geneva Switzerland — Fontenay Sous Bois
In 2 weeks — In Italy, we stayed one night in each city except in the Dolomites where we stayed 3 nights.
I remember that at first, I only wanted to go to the Dolomites. My heart screamed "Nature!" But well...
We had 2 weeks of vacation so it would have been a shame not to visit some cities.
Also my boyfriend wanted to... He was not that attracted by nature as I was (and still am).
Cities
NORTHERN ITALY 2017
Surprisingly, I really liked Milan and also Verona. See... I am not a "real" city girl... Give me a really comfy sofa, a big blanket, my computer to edit some pics of mine or to draw (or Netflix ^^') with a hot tea, and I'll be the happiest girl! I'm a geeky adventurous girl.
Anyway... I really liked both cities. There is this feeling of big cities, very busy but without the pervasive stress that I usually feel when I'm surounded by too much people. I loved how the old and the new were mixed together with old architecture and more hipster district. It is busy with a good vibes and warm. You can really chill. Like the feeling we had on the Sempione park where we just lied down on the grass while listening to this musician playing the "space drum" (is that how we call it ?)
It was also really authentic. I guess I could totally imagine myself living there. Not like those cities that kept the old architecture to make you think it's authentic but all the first floors are shops for tourists...
Now that I can look back to that experience, I regret a little bit not taking more pics about thoses cities. I guess it is a good reason to come back then! And of course because I really liked it!
The Dolomites is the place where my love for hiking was born (for hiking not nature, I'm one with nature since I was born ...). Don't get me wrong, it was hard ! I used to hike with my parents in my teenagehood but not on the same level. Anyway, the view was worth it.
Hiking
NORTHERN ITALY 2017
I remember the challenge of the 1st hike during the ascent. I won't lie, I'm quite bad in ascending. I'm better today hopefully but the first time with a good elevation was quite harsh. But of course, I also remember the joy when reaching the top, or even during the ascent only by looking around me and seeing the beauty that mother earth has to offer.
Every sensation and emotion are multiplied as you and your mind are only here, present in the moment. I felt the pain, the joy, the inner peace, and savored every moment with delight.
I'm a little bit sad that I didn't take the time to write my thoughts and feelings at that moment. It would have been funny to compare the person I was back then and my evolution. But one thing I'm sure is that this place left a big mark in my mind. Since then, I dream of going back there to enjoy it even more with the experience I have today.
